As vaguely promised last summer, we’ve set up the first iteration of our fantasy league, and we’d be lying if we said we weren’t excited. The league is going to consist of a mix of readers who have shown interest and fellow writers who belong to the wonderful United Cardinal Bloggers group. Oh, and of course you can count on all three StanGraphs staff members to draft and run exemplary teams that will surely cause jaws to drop across the entire country. Scratch that, the entire world!

We already have the majority of our spots committed to neat people, but if you’re interested go ahead and let us know by commenting or emailing us using the handy contact information section you can find at the top of the page. What’s that? You want more information? It looks like Friends of StanGraphs will be of the mixed league variety, as we will have enough teams participating to make it happen. It’s going to be a rotisserie league so the fifth best team doesn’t accidentally win, and the league rules and stat categories will remain up in the air until we can take a proper vote on them.

Other than the three StanGraphs staff writers, you can also for sure count on the participation of several reputable sources of baseball wisdom. UCB czar and awesome dude C70 is on board, and we plan to announce more participants with a daunting internet presence very soon. I’ll also kindly post more details of the league for the readership to enjoy once they become clear. We plan on drafting sometime in late March, though even that fact will have to be determined once all of our team slots are decided.

There’s also a pretty cool prize you can win if you’re the team that wins the league or finishes highest in the event that Spencer, Bryan, or I win the league. We’ll be treating the winner to a Cardinals game of his or her choice in 2014. That’s right, the winner/pseudo-winner gets to attend a Cardinals game on us! We’ll even kick in a beer, a hot dog, and a hug for the lucky individual who shows the most fantastical fortitude. We’re really pumped about the chance to get this thing going, and we’ll be writing about the events of the league throughout the course of the season. So let us know if you’re interested; it’s going to get crazy. Well, as crazy as a statistically-based baseball competition can get, anyway.
